Engagement rate calculator
Enter a few numbers from a profile to get its engagement rate and see how it compares with typical accounts of the same size.
Ranges are rough guides: rates fall as accounts grow and vary a lot by niche.
How engagement rate is calculated
Engagement rate by followers = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100, averaged over recent posts. On video platforms like TikTok and YouTube it's also common to divide by views instead, because most viewers don't follow the account; when you enter views we show both.
What is a good engagement rate?
It depends on the platform and on account size. Small accounts usually have higher rates because their audience is closer to them. As a rough guide, 1–3% is typical on Instagram, TikTok rates by followers are often several times higher, and X and Facebook rates are usually below 1%. Compare an account with others of a similar size in the same niche rather than with a single number.
Why it matters
Brands look at engagement rate before follower count, because it shows whether an audience is actually paying attention. A falling rate is often the first sign that posts aren't landing, while a sudden spike can point to a post the algorithm picked up.
Frequently asked questions
Should I count views as engagement?
No. Views are reach, not engagement. Use them as the denominator for an engagement rate by views, as this calculator does.
How many posts should I average?
10 to 12 recent posts is a good balance. Leave out posts promoted with paid ads, since ads add reach from people who don't follow you.
Is my data stored?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
